KIU Main Campus: Phillip Kairu, the representative of the Uganda Press Photo Award, revealed the opportunity to participate in the prestigious event yesterday Tuesday 12th July 2022, during a meeting with students of Journalism and Media studies along with the Head of Department, Miss. Maureen Komugisha at the KIU Idd Basajjabalaba Memorial Library.

“Participation is free and not limited to journalism students but also those from other faculties and schools who have passion for photography as long as they fall in the age category of 21 to 28 years,” said Kairu.

YPA is an educational award established to showcase and nurture photographic talent giving participants perspective on issues. The issues motivate students to formulate projects that guide them in their photography ventures.

Students who will participate are required to submit a motivation letter and a proposal of the project they would like to embark on. After submission, the successful applicants are taken on for mentorship. The deadline for submission is 25th July, 2022.

The theme for 2022 is: ‘New Realities.’ The Young Photographer Award (YPA) is an annual event organized by the Uganda Press Photo Award (UPPA), an NGO which partners with various companies such as Canon, EOS among others.

The winner scoops free subscription to Visura for one year. A free Canon M50 MK 11 camera with kit lens and an Inkjet printer.
